New Characters Revealed for Game of Thrones Season 3

Well its the sad time of year. Game of Thrones has come to an end and we now have to wait until next April before we find out what happens to our favorite characters in Westeros and across the Narrow Sea. But have no fear! We will have plenty of news to cover as we get into production of the third season. The third and fourth seasons are to be based on the events of the third book, and having read it myself, I can assure you it is going to be an epic few seasons!

A few days before the season finale, a new Entertainment Weekly story (which was reported via Collider), gave fans a few insights into the new season, which as I said before will be adapted from A Storm of Swords, the third book in the Song of Ice and Fire series.

This new article discusses many things about the upcoming season, but it mainly touches on the topic of new characters that will be introduced in this season. For those of you who have read the books, I am sure you already have a mental note about certain characters that didn’t appear this season but should have. While the others who don’t care much about reading the book, were a little bit lost with the amount of characters that were introduced this season.

Before we delve into the list of new characters, a quote from the article sheds light on how the producers of the show are handling the addition of new characters which will already add to the staggering amount on screen already. Here is what they had to say:

“It’s important to point out that that we have the largest cast on television right now,” they said. “We introduced dozens of new characters in season two. If you hurl 300 characters at an audience, the story collapses under the weight of too many faces, too many names, and too many subplots. We need to be just as mindful of the audience members who have never read the books as we are of the readers; the series will fail if we only appeal to those who already know the characters. So we try to be parsimonious about how many new roles we introduce to the story and when we introduce them.”

I am glad to see that they understand that not everyone has read the book and that this season did have a lot of character overload. If they know how to find the right balance and still keep the readers (or pre-installed fan base) happy, then I know that his show will continue to be a success.

But we aren’t here to find out my thoughts on whether or not next season will be good (It will. Just saying. Seriously. It will be epic), we are here to see which characters are already on tap to be introduced next season. The list is as follows:

Mance Rayder: We’ve heard about him all season. A former member of the Night’s Watch who became the “King Beyond the Wall,” the leader of the Wildlings.

Daario Naharis: A confident and seductive warrior.

Jojen Reed; Meera Reed: A teenage brother and sister duo with special insights.

Edmure Tully: A brash young member of the Tully family.

Ser Brynden Tully (The Blackfish): Catelyn Stark’s uncle.

Lady Selyse Florent: Stannis Baratheon’s wife.

Shireen: Stannis’ daughter.

Olenna Redwyne (The Queen of Thorns): Margaery Tyrell’s sharp-witted grandmother.

Beric Dondarrion: A skilled knight who is the leader of the outlaw group Brotherhood Without Banners.

Thoros of Myr: A red priest who follows the same religion as Melisandre.

Tormund Giantsbane: A Wildling raider.

Now the producers have already said that there are other characters that will be making their appearance in the next season or two as well, so fans of the books should not cry bloody murder because they don’t see any of their favorites on that list. Just be patient, they’ll be announced soon enough!
So what do you think fellow nerds? Are you excited about the next season? Sad about having to wait so long? What do you think about this list? Let us know in the comments below!
