Preview: Deadly Harvest from Arcana
Take one part Deadliest Catch, and one part Firefly. Season with a dash of Pirates of the Caribbean. Mix until consistency is smooth. Garnish with a pinch of Aliens, and serve at absolute zero. This is the recipe for Deadly Harvest, from Arcana.
Written by Erik Hendrix and Michael David Nelsen with art by Yannis Roumboulias, Deadly Harvest follows the crew of the Harvest Moon, as they perform the most dangerous job in the universe. In the far future, mankind has stretched to the stars using “thread drives”, which allow for further travel, at faster rates. These drives are powered by Kliptinium 1, an element so volatile that it can explode with a multi-megaton blast if it is hit just right. These are the men and women whose job it is to mine the ore. The only hitch is that the ore is only found in asteroids, making this already difficult job nearly impossible, as the miners have to work in zero gravity.
Messrs. Hendrix and Nelson tell a fine story, moving the plot along at a quick pace and, with Mr. Roumboulias’ artwork, really convey the urgency and danger these miners face in their daily activities. In this line of work anyone can get killed at any time, just by doing their job, and the creative team does a great job of showing this. This really is a “summer blockbuster” type of book, a quick fun read, full of action and adventure.
This book will be release in single issue form, exclusively through Comixology, then in collected form in print in November (solicited in September’s Previews) You can read the first 10 pages below.
