On March 7, 1999, the world was introduced to Digimon Adventure. After its initial launch the series became popular very fast thanks to word of mouth and has been doing well for the last 15 years.
For many years, Digimon has been giving the world’s children and other fans interesting stories of adventure and life with a vast variety of characters in not one, not two, but six different series! These six series are known as Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02 (the first two just considered Digimon Digital Monsters overseas), Digimon Tamers, Digimon Frontier, Digimon Savers (Digimon Data Squad overseas), and Digimon Xros Wars (pronounced “Cross Wars” and known as Digmon Fusion overseas). Each season has some group of Digital heroes coming to terms with another world with their partner Digimon and the others in the group to deal with evil. The stakes get raised when the kids realize that protect if they do not protect the Digital World then the Human World can be destroyed too.
Digimon was seen as a competitor to the loved Pokemon series that began that same year for they both had cute animal-like creatures that followed prepubescent children for adventures. The difference was that Digimon lived in own a world, the Digital World, that existed right along with the human world, while in Pokemon the Pokemon and humans lived in the same Pokemon world. For a long time people loved Digimon for the TV series and the stories they produce, while Pokemon had the games everyone loved.
With the 15th anniversary that happened earlier in 2014, Japan has announced a new series of Digimon that will start-up in 2015, probably in March just as the original series did, with the main character of the original series, Taichi “Tai” Kamiya. Tai will be in high school this time around and some new adventure will happen to him. Fans have questions all about what will still count as part of the story since Digimon Adventure 02 continues after Digimon Adventure with some new characters add to the original bunch. Will the Digimon Adventure 02 kids show up in this anniversary series, will all the voice actors come back to reprise their roles, will the Western World get the series and if so when? There are many questions but it is just nice to be getting a new Digimon series with beloved characters.
