Last week at San Diego Comic Con, Her Universe put on the 2015 Her Universe Fashion Show, their second fashion show event at the annual multi-genre entertainment and comic convention.
A group of up and coming fashion designers were given the extraordinary opportunity to not only showcase their designs to the world, but two winning designers win the chance to design an all-new Her Universe collection for Hot Topic.
Designs were inspired by numerous corners of the geek universe, from classics such as Star Wars and Star Trek, to current favorites such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Game of Thrones, and The Nightmare Before Christmas, to unconventional inspirations from Aliens and Bob’s Burgers.
Judge’s choice winner was the Batman inspired “Joker’s New Look” dress, designed by Kelly Cercone.
Audience choice winner was the Sailor Moon “Usagi’s Transformation” dress, designed by Leetal Platt.
In addition to the design competition, the event kicked off with a presentation of Her Universe’s new line of everyday fashions inspired by many genres of the geek universe. Some highlights include the Star Trek Captain Picardigan and the Deanna Troi uniform dress, based on her actual costume.
Avengers fans will love the Avengers Assemble Collared Tee and Pop of Color Skirt and an Iron Man cap-sleeve dress, that glows-in-the-dark. Asguardians can represent with the Thor navy dress with embroidered hammer detailing and red sailor style collar.
Items from this collection are currently available on the Her Universe website while supplies last.
Her Unverse’s geek-fashion representation will go beyond the Comic-Con stage next year. Lionsgate announced that the Her Universe Fashion Show will become a reality series on its Comic-Con International SVOD service in 2016, beginning with this year’s fashion show and winners, then chronicle the lead-up and behind-the-scenes work for next year’s event.
