About Shizuka Cosplay & Art

Hello, I am Monica aka Shizuka,  a cosplayer from 2013 and I have loved the world of anime and manga for a long time! Before doing cosplay drew much; then I started to appreciate the TV series, video games and everything related to the nerd world! In four years I think I’ve made about 40 cosplays (I stopped counting hahahah). In time I became an organizer of events of this type and presenter of cosplay competitions type: Festival nerd, geek B, Miragica. This passion has given me the opportunity to meet many important people in my life now as my friends ❤ and people I admire a lot and they are an inspiration to me as Anzujaamu❤

Shizuka Cosplay

How did you first get into cosplay?

I met a guy on a post on FB who asks to make a cosplay group and so I joined them!

Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?

To me, it’s just fun, especially with the construction! But it took me to also have work requests as a presenter of cosplay competitions, judge or organize the cosplay area of an event/fair.

Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?

I prefer to do it by myself. I love to create and invent.

How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?

A long time, but it always depends on what I have to realize cosplay! Eg for Corpse Bride it took me two months, and to make a weapon usually 2/3 weeks.

What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?

I really have many facts, I have over 40 (I stopped counting) but my favorite is Emily the Corpse Bride.

What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?

The first time I brought my first cosplay in 2013, I’ve known them my first friend’s cosplayers. It was my first show and I was in group cosplay with the known on FB. It was really a great experience!

How do you feel about group cosplays?

I always like group cosplay, I think that’s what makes cosplay something special.

What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?

Many are on the list at the moment and maybe it will come out the other! I recently finished the Little Mermaid Ariel, Hlibel (Bleach), Blake RWBY, B2 Nier, another version of Nanami Momozono and another version of Aayla Secura (Star Wars).

What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?

I think that often misunderstands the meaning of competition. Usually when I happen to see someone who does the same cosplay done better, for me is motivating, because it spurs me to do even better! But often people demoralized and test only envy, and this will make them feel just as bad.

What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?

I do not have a default template, they have to hit me!

What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?

My favorite part is making it happen! And that my fun doing cosplay.

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

I work with many materials, but the most difficult for the moment is the worbla!

What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?

It was always a challenge to myself, every time I learn something new!

Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?

I learned that there is no limit to the imagination and to their capacity not! The hardest thing was to teach another person how to achieve something in the event Cosplay!

What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?

Have fun and share with your friends this passion.

How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?

Many use the cosplay as a pretext to emerge or appear, I do not say that it is wrong each one can do what he wants but you lose the pleasure linked to this hobby.

If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over ambitious cosplay you want to do?

I’d like to one day work as a costume designer. Although at the time with some of my friends I work with some fairs like Behind Animation (FB page)

Do you set a budget for each cosplay?

No budget.

What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay for me is passion.

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

Nothing can ever take my cosplay.
