Rheon To Be Inhuman
Welsh actor and Game of Thrones alum, Iwan Rheon has been selected by Marvel Studios to join their Inhumans television series, Variety reports. Rheon will be the most villainous of the Inhumans, Maximus. Maximus the Mad, younger brother of Inhuman leader Black Bolt, is a psychotic genius described as “intelligent, charming and articulate, he comes across as a man of the people but secretly covets power.” A part like this will be familiar ground for Rheon, as he played the evil Ramsay Bolton on Game of Thrones. In addition to Game of Thrones, Rheon has starred as a straight man (pun not intended) to Marvel alum Sir Ian McKellan in the sitcom Vicious.
Jeph Loeb, producer of the series and head of Marvel Television praised Rheon. “Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish, and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Rise of the Inhumans
The new series Inhumans will focus on the Royal Family and their family drama. Originally tapped to be a movie, the powers-that-be at Marvel has since turned it into a series. The characters were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965 and are a race of superhuman beings descended from experiments on early humans. Inhumans also played a major role on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, but the new series is not in itself a spinoff of the other show. The Royal Family includes the silent and powerful Black Bolt, mad brother Maximus, loyal queen Medusa, and adventurous Crystal. Crystal in the comics had a relationship with Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. In fact, many Inhuman stories have involved the Fantastic Four.
ABC has ordered Inhumans straight to series, and it will premiere sometime in the fall. Scott Buck will serve as showrunner, as well as being in charge of Iron Fist. An IMAX showing of the first two episodes is also planned.
