Katie McGrath as Wonder Woman

Fan theories and castings are a dime a dozen.  That doesn’t mean that they are all bad, or even worth talking about.  As I was scrolling through Tumblr this morning I was struck with an epiphany.  Among all of the shipping posts about Supergirl and Lena Luthor, it dawned on me that Katie McGrath might have been wasted in the role of Lena Luthor.  She could have been used in a much greater role, that of Wonder Woman.

If Gal Gadot had not been available or turned down the role of the amazon princess, who would have been Warner Bros. backup?  If there had or will be a new Wonder Woman series in the works, would Katie get any serious consideration?  Based on her current role on Supergirl, it would be unlikely, but it’s nice to dream.

The Irish-born actress certainly has the looks for the part and is no stranger to the fantasy/sci-fi genre.  Her beautiful, long, dark hair, and her stunning deep blue eyes, she has an almost uncanny resemblance to Wonder Woman and carries herself with the assuredness of a princess.  With roles in series such as The Tudors, Merlin, Dracula, and of course Supergirl, Katie certainly has the experience.

Since Lynda Carter, few actresses have even had a chance at a role like Wonder Woman.  Megan Gale was cast as Wonder Woman along with Armie Hammer as Batman in Justice League: Mortal which was canceled after script issues and other problems including a Writers Guild of America strike in 2008 and the possibility of a Screen Actors Guild strike.  Pre-production had each of the Justice League members suited up, but that footage is somewhat of a Holy Grail to fans.

Adrianne Palicki nearly pulled it off in 2011 in a David E. Kelley-written and produced a pilot for NBC.  Sadly the series was not picked up and the only footage of Palicki’s performance without most of the visual effect can only be found online and in bootleg DVDs.  What little footage and images that were released were seriously condemned by fans, which some say was responsible for the ultimate rejection by NBC.

That bring us to Gal Gadot taking on the role of Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a solo Wonder Woman film due this June and again in Justice League due in November.

Fans can only hope, speculate and fan cast our hearts out when it comes to future incarnations of our favorite heroes.  Mine just happens to be Katie McGrath as Wonder Woman.  Who would be your dream fan cast?  Leave your comments in the comments below.

Here are some images of Katie alongside Wonder Woman for comparison.
