About Yuuki Cosplay & Makeup
Hi to all!! My names is Anna alias Yuuki; I live in Verona, Italy. I’m a cosplayer since 2008, I participated in several conventions in my country and brought so many cosplays! Beyond that my second passion is makeup, realizable tricks to passion and I always like to experience new things! In life have a pool secretary, I love being with people!
How did you first get into cosplay?
My friends convinced me; I was very hesitant at first but then thanks to them I have tried !!!
Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?
I consider cosplay as a healthy hobby that can lead to something important if you have good potential and if you have talent! I’m not opposed to who turns this into a job, I find it great to work in something you like! In my case, I’d like to but I think at the moment I still have a lot to learn yet!
Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?
I prefer to realize them alone to learn as well to improve the technique! But make no secret to buy an occasional costume, there is much research also look good in a cosplay on the web! Don’t be ashamed to purchase or make yourself commission something, what matters is the end result !!
How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?
Depends on the difficulty of the costume, sometimes we can only take a week, some even a month! Then working time is always short so I take calmly projects and try to start it as soon as possible! [Although it is hard!xD ]
What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?
I have many, for now, Akane Tsunemori, then Serenity Sailor Moon costumes, as well as Annie Leonhardt from Shingeki no Kyojin are always popular!!
What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?
I don’t have a particular memory I find best, when they call you with your character’s name in convention and ask you a photo or a pose, it is always very rewarding as like!
How do you feel about group cosplays?
I love the groups, I find them cute and a way to share the love of a series and the fun of spending time at conventions! I also love couples, lately I’m trying to push myself to do more projects in common, alone it is nice but for long we have been tired!
What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?
I’m working on Doll from Kuroshitsuji, I debut with her this weekend to an Italian convention, I can’t wait! I also have other plans for this year, some are Shiho Miyano as Detective Conan, Kotori Minami by Love live and Astolfo from Fate / Apocrypha!
What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?
There is so much hatred and envy, people who are treated badly for stupid things like copying the characters etc… I’m opposed to this; cosplay should unite not separate! I hate to see so much hatred, too many take this hobby seriously and not about much you can have fun and meet new amazing people!
What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?
I like characters which are tsundere and those lunatics, reflect me big time!
What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?
Wearing makeup, I love the time to try everything especially the wig and makeup!
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
I try to look everywhere, I love the markets, the bargain shops and those of well-supplied fabrics!
What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?
Self-esteem, sometimes I would drop everything because maybe I had a bad time, but then remember I like what I do and then keep doing it for me!
Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?
I learned to appreciate me and to know me better, it helped me to be a better person! But it doesn’t seem cosplay helps you so much sometimes!
What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?
Have fun, and love what you do!
How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?
Has evolved well, initially was little known. Now the cosplay is viral, the quality has increased, everyone can start to be known in the community – you learn thanks to the tutorials and it’s easy to make friends with new people!
If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over ambitious cosplay you want to do?
A beautiful armor even if I have little dexterity!
Do you set a budget for each cosplay?
No, because it depends on the character, I try to save money where I find opportunities, but if you want something done right I spend the money!
What does cosplay mean to you?
Means creativity, love, and improvement! I love to realize and especially change appearance and character! It isn’t only costumes but also interpretation!
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
For now, nothing!
