Lara Croft fans get ready — the synopsis and the first photos for the Tomb Raider film reboot have been released, as reported by SuperHeroHype.com.
More about the Tomb Raider reboot:
Tomb Raider is based on the best-selling and critically acclaimed video game franchise that stars the character, Lara Croft. Lara Croft has been featured in sixteen video games, released by the companies Core Design and Crystal Dynamics. The franchise has previously been adapted into two films: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life. Both of those films starred Angelina Jolie as the title character, but she will not be reprising her role in this reboot film.
The synopsis for Tomb Raider reads:
“Seven years after the disappearance of her father, 21-year-old Lara has refused to take the reins of his global business empire, instead of working as a bike courier in London while taking college classes. Eventually, she becomes inspired to investigate her father’s disappearance and travels to his last-known location: a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name Tomb Raider.” This is a new backstory for Lara Croft, but she’s had a few similar backstories in both the games and the previous films.
The Tomb Raider reboot will star Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, Dominic West as her father, Daniel Wu as a ship captain ally of Croft’s, and Walton Goggins as an as yet unnamed villain.
Word of the Nerd will report any and all news on Tomb Raider as it becomes available, so stay tuned!
