Hypable is reporting, the new Starz series American Gods, based on Neil Gaiman’s novel of the same name, has been renewed for a second season. Only two episodes of American Gods have aired thus far, which means that American Gods has received a stunningly early renewal compared to many other series.
More About American Gods
American Gods is executive produced by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green. The series stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, Yetide Badaki as Biliquis, and Emily Browning as Laura Moon. The Starz series follows ex-convict and recent widower Shadow as he begins working for Mr. Wednesday as his aide de camp, assisting Wednesday as they take a traditional American road trip looking for allies in a coming conflict. Shadow is unknowingly swept up into a world where immigrant gods walk American streets and the old and the new are preparing to do battle with one another…
The novel American Gods is over five hundred pages. Author Neil Gaiman recently tweeted that Fuller and Green plan to take around five seasons to cover the material in the book. Other interviews seem to indicate that they’ll faithfully cover the material (including making sure that no whitewashing occurs) with a number of detours along the way (like any good road trip does). Neil Gaiman is also working on a sequel to the original novel, the material for which may end up in the television show (almost like Game of Thrones, if Benioff and Weiss showed sanctity towards the source material). If American Gods follows the route its creators have charted for it, we may have the new long-running genre show that becomes popular for the general public.
