About NiLu.Alice Cosplay
Italian cosplayer since 2011. 27 years old.
How did you first get into cosplay?
I started doing cosplay in 2011 with Trish (DMC IV) ’cause I went with some friend of mine at a Games and Comics Con and I love it!
Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?
I cosplay for fun but overall for passion! But you never know…
Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?
I started buying my costumes, but then I started to do them by myself (makeup, costume, and accessories).
How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?
It depends… 2 months or 2 weeks… for example, Umi from Rayearth was rich of accessories so 2/3 months. Psylocke costume 2 weeks. Saying that must be taken into account that I have a full-time job.
What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?
Hard question!!! I think Elektra from Marvel Comics… I love to be her.
What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?
There are so many, but I must say an interview on important Italian blog about Daredevil.
How do you feel about group cosplays?
To cosplay as a single is fantastic but in a group is absolute superlative! It creates so many new friendships and collaborations.
What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?
I’m working on Elektra white version… then I think, the next one will be Medusa (from Uncanny Inhumans).
What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?
Envy… like everywhere. It screws up everything. I try to collaborate with others, not compete.
What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?
Strong, lethal, scrappy, beautiful women!
What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?
I think shopping and photo shoots!! Also, comments and feedback people say on my works.
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
Others cosplayers (Facebook groups), friends and the internet.
What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?
Going to the gym. (ahah!)
Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?
Life lessons… yes.
Be patient and smile, but overall I get the importance of diplomacy.
What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?
Cosplay what you like not what you think people likes the most. If you do, you’ll lose the fun.
If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over ambitious cosplay you want to do?
Right now, Gentiana from Final Fantasy XV or Liliana (planeswalker on Magic Cards).
Do you set a budget for each cosplay?
No, I want the best for my cosplay.
What does cosplay mean to you?
It’s a way to be anyone and anything you want to be… It’s a way to test you every day in many different skills: searching, sewing, design, build, invent, ACT.
But also having fun with your friends, “stupid” like you.
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
No, not right now.
