Gifted Trailer Released Online

The trailer for the upcoming X-Men spinoff, The Gifted, was released online on Monday by Fox. The trailer introduces us to the Strucker family. Reed, the father, works for the government tracking down mutants. His children, unbeknownst to him, are mutants, gifted with powerful abilities. When his son’s powers activate due to an incident at school, Reed must take his family on the run. Fox’s own synopsis reads “Family adventure series THE GIFTED, from 20th Century Fox Television in association with Marvel Television, tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.”

The show will be produced by Bryan Singer, who has helmed the majority of X-Men movies. Singer will also be directing the pilot episode, written by Burn Notice‘s Matt Nix. The show will run on the FOX network, alongside Gotham and Lucifer by DC Comics.

Where Are The X-Men?

An interesting line in the trailer is that both the X-Men and The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants have not been seen in some time. In an interview in Variety, Legion showrunner Noah Hawley said “With the X-Men comics, there are a lot of alt universes, so that has allowed me some leeway.” It is possible, like Legion on sister network FX, that The Gifted exists in another alternate timeline. Could this be the same timeline as Logan? Hawley has also hinted at possible crossovers with Legion and other X-Men related properties as well, “I have to prove that the show is good enough to incorporate those elements from the movie world, if that were ever possible.” Time will tell if our favorite mutants, or alternate versions thereof, will appear.

The Gifted premieres later this year.
