Game of Thrones Season 7 Sneak Peek Pics
The season 7 preview photos for Game of Thrones have been pretty scarce so far, but of the few we’ve gotten, none have had the impact of just one of the seven photos HBO just released to Entertainment Weekly. Most are your run of the mill behind the scenes shots of filming, just little snippets of what could be coming or displaying the set. But the photo of Daenerys…
There’s a reason that one will be left until last.
As often happens, Jon Snow is first. On a horse in full leathers, Jon Snow looks concerned as usual. The snow is falling heavily over Snow and his soldiers. It’s a bit hard to tell for sure, but is seems as though Snow is gathering his numbers in the Winterfell courtyard, though where he’ll lead them first remains to be seen. Most likely, they’ll be heading for Castle Black to help his former brothers hold off the wight walkers.
Arya is mounted on a horse as well, inside a gate that, hopefully, belongs to her home in Winterfell. It would be about time the farther flung Stark child finds her way home, and they could certainly use her with her new skills as a half trained Faceless man against the more human foes that Sansa and Jon are bound to face. However, it could just as easily be another stop on her way to crossing those names off her list. Fans will just have to wait and see what way they lead this favored character.
This behind the scenes shot of filming in the throne room is pretty awesome just for the detail it allows fans to see. The uneven stone of the steps is a gorgeous touch that is hardly shown and it gives a great view of the iron lion added to the window behind the throne (we know from the brief teaser video that there are more on every window as well). The medallion is immense. Fans will also note that for the moment at least, Jaime is standing beside his sister, guarding and serving the queen.
This is a rather cute candid shot of Gwendoline Christie smiling at the camera on set. Her character Brienne is so serious and tough that it’s almost hard to remember that Christie herself is so upbeat and fun. It’s also nice to see that these actors are enjoying themselves on set, creating the show fans love so much.
Tormund’s actor, Kristofer Hivju, is shown on set at Winterfell, with a few soldiers in the far background. There is snow on the ground, which is to be expected in the north now that winter has come, though it seems it not quite in full swing yet, which is good news for everyone. It doesn’t seem likely that heavy snow will help the soldiers move around to defend the north. Nor does it seem likely that it will hurt the Walkers.
Sansa looks very suspicious in this photo of her and Littlefinger; either that or very critical of what Jon Snow is doing with the crown she helped him get. It’s not hard to understand with Baelish constantly whispering in her ear. It’s unclear why she still lets him talk to her as much as he does after what she learned of him, though it sees she has yet to escape his influence.
The entire photoset is made by the sneak peek HBO is giving fans of Daenerys and her coming conquest of Westeros. The shot, obviously heavy with CGI, shows Dany astride Drogon, the largest of her dragon children, who is beginning to stretch well beyond any of the dragons from recent history. It is possible that considering he was never locked up as the other two were, and if he is allowed his continued freedom, he may start to rival Balerion, the black dread, though he still has quite a bit of growing left to do. This would be significant considering that Aegon the Conqueror, the first Targaryen to rule Westeros, rode Balerion into battle against the former kings of the continent. Still, even at his current size, Drogon is enormous and certainly strikes fear into the hearts of any who might stand against Dany in her quest to claim back her rightful throne. And the photos promise that fans will be plenty in awe when the dragons take to the field of battle.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on Sunday, July 16th.
