As part of our all-day Star Wars Day coverage, we bring you this amazing re-edited clip of the “Battle of Scarif” from Rogue One. The full video is over five minutes long, but you get to see and hear the scenes from three perspectives. Each run through gives a brief explanation of how it was edited. Thanks to Maple Films for providing this “fan edit”.
The first is a run through of the original scene with original sound effects and musical score by Michael Giacchino. It seems to be but a little for brevity, but the actual space battle is as-seen-in the theatrical release.
The second run has the majority of sound effects removed with some replaced especially for this re-cut. The dialogue and musical score have also been removed.
The third run is the finished product. Some of the original sound effects are added back, along with the dialogue. The musical score has been replaced with John Williams’ score from Return of the Jedi used during the “Battle of Endor”.
The finished edit is impressive and adds a bit of nostalgia to an already amazing action sequence. John Williams is the master, there’s no doubt about that.
