It has been mere hours since the release of the first official image from Star Trek: Discovery. Now there is a nearly two and a half minute trailer for the new CBS All-Access series.

Fans have been frantically awaiting any footage available of the new Star Trek series since the widely criticized “Test Flight” footage from Discovery last July. CBS has received a lot of fan backlash about the series which has had its ups and downs during production. News that the series would only be available to subscribers of CBS All-Access got fans in an uproar. The announcement that Netflix would also be picking up the series seemed to calm the masses. Once the official announcement of Sonequa Martin-Green joining the cast, things seemed to right themselves, in spite of recent news that the premiere had been delayed.
The trailer will undoubtedly delight and discourage fans even more. A first real look at this Trek’s Klingons, the major baddies in this era (roughly ten years before Captain Kirk and Spock) already isn’t sitting well with fans. But there are some sighs of relief out there. It seems the “first look” at the USS Discovery was indeed not the final design of the ship which can be seen early in the trailer. However, the overall feel and look of the series are leaving Trek fans more skeptical than ever.
Only time will tell whether this series leaves fans as disappointed and angry as they were with Star Trek: Enterprise, which tinkered with and sometimes broke Star Trek canon in order to placate viewers. Longtime Trek fans were insulted and the series was canceled after four seasons.
