New Details About Good Omens Television Series

Amazon Studios announced a miniseries based on Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel Good Omens. The series was announced with several other project’s based on the author’s work at his funeral in 2016.

Good Omens for All

The recent wave of cult novel adaptations is tailor made for Terry Pratchett’s work. The man wrote incredible books for a rabid fan base. However, his work is packed with droll satire and surreal elements. As a result, adapting the pieces into films could never do them justice. But, with the rise of streaming services offering premium television content, the doors for Pratchett adaptations is wide open. During a memorial service for the author last year, Neil Gaiman announced he would write the adaptation of the novel. At the same memorial, Terry Rossio and Rhianna Pratchett announced adaptations of Mort and Wee Free Men.

Good OmensGaiman and Pratchett had a deal to exclusively work on Good Omens content together, but a posthumous letter from Pratchett transferred the work solely to Gaiman. Previously, the two worked on a BBC radio play of the novel. Though, since the announcement of the series, things remained quiet on the Good Omens front.

However, Amazon announced a joint development deal with the BBC. What that means is the show is debuting globally on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, BBC is airing the series. Caroline Skinner (Doctor Who), Chris Sussman, Rob Wilkins, and Rod Brown(Fleabag), are executive producing. For the uninitiated, the book revolves around an angel and demon working to stop the apocalypse. Sure, the apocalypse has been prophesied, but the angel and demon harbor a fondness for Earth and its inhabitants. No casting news followed the announcement, but Amazon’s casting record is stellar. Good Omens is great and hilarious, so count me on the hype train!
