Spider-Man Homecoming Sequel To Kick Off MCU’s Fourth Phase
Spider-Man Homecoming is set to release next Friday, and there are plans already being made for old Web-head. Star Tom Holland revealed this week that Peter was actually first seen in Iron Man 2. However, this article is going to focus on the future of Peter Parker in the MCU. In an interview with io9, Marvel Cinematic Universe head honcho Kevin Feige prepared the roadmap for Spider-Man’s future. After all, the only film planned for 2019 after Avengers 4 (aka Infinity War, part 2) debuts is the sequel to the upcoming Spidey film. Feige has revealed that this film will be the one to launch Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ““So much happens in [the 3rd and 4th Avengers movies], as you can imagine, and so much is affected by it that we felt what better person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner, than Peter Parker? So, coming out two months after Untitled Avengers, [that’s what] much of what the next Spider-Man film will be about,” said Feige
The Ballad Of Peter Parker
Feige goes on to say “It was purposefully done like this. Like how the events of Captain America: Civil War impacted Peter as he was dropped off by Tony and expected to go back to continue his sophomore year, how the hell are the events of Infinity War and Untitled [Avengers] going to affect him as he, yes, goes back to his junior year?” Furthermore, each new Spider-Man solo film will take place during one year of high school for Peter and his supporting cast. Feige also revealed that Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 will take place during the summer vacation between Peter’s sophomore and junior years of high school. Some kids go on road trips, some kids go to camp, Spider-man has to help save the galaxy. Feige has a roadmap to the course of Peter’s life, saying “Much like, as we went into Homecoming, we knew all the general pillars, you then need the magic of the writers and directors to bring it all to life. So we’re in that same position and we’ll actually start putting pen to paper on the next Spider-Man film in the coming weeks once this film is finally released. But we do know the specifics and the time line.”
What About The Rest Of Phase 4?
As for the rest of the Phase 4 movies, Feige is keeping things close to his chest, and top secret from most people. He stated that no news about future Marvel films will be released until around the release of Avengers 4. His final remarks on the subject are“I hope [the news comes] after that. I think there will be certain elements that start to come about, not the least of which is the already announced release date of the next Spider-Man film. But other than that we’re going to keep it very close to the vest because this is really about focusing on the unprecedented conclusion to a 22-movie overarching narrative.”
Spider-Man Homecoming premieres July 7th.
