Game of Thrones is airing right now which means it is everywhere. It’s online, it’s offline, it’s at work and at home and that’s okay because let’s face it, we all love Game of Thrones. The show has inspired hundreds (maybe even thousands?) of fans to create content surrounding the series (either the show or the book) everything from analysis, to fanart, to fanfiction. But apparently, fans are not the only ones inspired. As Nerdist just revealed, Matt Groening has something new in the works.
Disenchantment for Netflix
Matt Groening is known for being the mind behind the world famous comedy series The Simpsons and Futurama. Pretty much everyone in the world with access to a television has seen at least one episode of The Simpsons. It is the longest running American animated series with 30 years under its belt (his other series Futurama is not far behind that with 18 years under its belt). Now Groening has a new project that has been picked up by Netflix for 20 episodes.
The new series is called Disenchantment. Variety described it as:
“An adult fantasy about a crumbling medieval kingdom known as Dreamland. The central character is a hard-drinking princess Bean, her elf companion Elfo and her “personal demon” Luci.”
There aren’t many details out yet, other than it will be on Netflix and the first 10 episodes will air sometime next year. Abbi Jacobson will be the voice behind Bean; Nat Faxon will be the voice of Elfo, and Eric Andre will be the voice of Luci. When asked about the series Groening said: “Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.”
It definitely sounds like something worth keeping an eye out.
