Krypton Lives At Comic Con
Krypton, the show about Superman’s grandfather, just released its first official trailer at San Diego Comic Con. Krypton previously had a trailer leaked from the SyFy upfronts. The series takes place 200 years before the destruction of Krypton and follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), Superman’s grandfather. The summary of the show states Krypton “will follow Superman’s grandfather – whose House of El was ostracized and shamed – as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.”

Man Of Steel Prequel?
Stylistically, the setting looks a lot like how the planet looked on Man of Steel. In fact, the trailer uses the same symbol for the House of El as the 2013 Superman film, along with items such as the key-like items and the consoles from the scout ship. It has yet to be shown whether the show will be officially a prequel to Man of Steel. However, the showrunner is David S. Goyer, who scripted Man of Steel, and the production design is in the aesthetics of that film’s version of Krypton.
As for plot details, Goyer and SyFy are keeping things close to their chests. We don’t know why the House of El fell out of favor by the beginning of the story, or even many of the details of the various characters. It is likely more will be revealed by the time the show premieres. However, looking at the cast list, it will likely look at the House of El and the House of Zod, as well as the various byzantine politics of the titular planet.
Comics wise, it looks like it will be influenced by John Byrne’s take from the Man of Steel miniseries released after Crisis on Infinite Earths, as well as the World Of Krypton miniseries which explored the planet’s past.
Krypton will premiere on SyFy in 2018.
