New Trailer for Star Trek Discovery

Star Trek Discovery

Few Star Trek projects have generated so much public debate than CBS’ Star Trek Discovery.  From the onset, the show’s exclusive CBS All-Access pay for access model was highly criticized by fans.  The inclusion of not one, but two female leads from less than enlightened fans stating that Star Trek was being feminized much like Star Wars.  The complete reimagining of the Star Trek universe from the Starship Discovery to the Klingons, this Trek series is trying to break new ground.  The loss early on of the show’s frontrunner Bryan Fuller left many thinking the project was doomed to failure.  Production delays and casting issues plagued the series almost from the beginning.

Some fans think a departure from the Roddenberry formula is a travesty to his name.  While some feel this move to help modernize the dated concept of the Trek universe is exactly what the franchise needs to grow and stay current.  Many fans fall in the middle and are taking a “wait and see” approach.  No matter where your particular opinion falls, there is much to be seen in this new Star Trek series.

This new trailer for the series gives a much closer look at the Klingons, in which they seem to play a major part in the development of the story.  Perhaps the initial conflict between the Klingon Empire and the Federation is just beginning.  There are references to starting and stopping a war which appears to be between the Klingons and Starfleet.

Star Trek Discovery

Much like the rival Star Wars franchise, Star Trek is a fandom that will never be able to please everyone.  Trying to appeal to new viewers while simultaneously catering to long time fans is a near impossible task.  No matter which direction it goes or how the story develops, there will be fans that are angered and disenfranchised by it.  That is just the nature of fandom.  And perhaps only true and loyal fans are able to find the silver linings and continue to support it.

By the looks of the trailers so far, Star Trek Discovery looks to be done on an epic scale that will hopefully bring in viewers old and new.  Check out the latest trailer for Star Trek Discovery below and tell us what your thoughts on this revamped Trek series are in the comments section below.
