Amazon has a few hits under its belt with series like Transparent, The Man in the High Castle and of course Mozart in the Jungle. Now it looks to join the superhero genre with its upcoming revival of The Tick. And thanks to ComingSoon.Net we’ve got the first official trailer for all of you to enjoy.
The new series is being written by The Tick’s actual creator, Ben Edlund (who is known for his work on other genre shows like Gotham, Supernatural, Angel, and Firefly). Edlund will also be an executive producer along with Barry Josephson, Barry Sonnenfield and the original Tick himself Patrick Warburton. The series will star Peter Serafinowicz, who had already been a part of the genre thanks to his role as Denarian Saal in Guardians of the Galaxy. He will be joined by Valorie Curry and Griffin Newman.
The show’s description is as follows:
“In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, the new The Tick series follows an underdog accountant with zero powers who comes to realize his city is owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero.”
Edlund originally created The Tick for New England Comics then created The Tick’s own book two years later. The Tick has had to attempts at turning it into a series. The first was an animated half-hour show in 1994 that lasted for two seasons. Most of the episodes are available on the DVDs. The second was a live-action show on Fox, which starred the aforementioned Patrick Warburton, and was canceled after 9 episodes. And went on to become another Fox-cancelled cult hit ala Firefly. It also has been adapted into a video game based on the animated series, but that received mostly negative reviews. Here is hoping that this second attempt at a live action series goes better for the blue superhero.
