Rick and Morty Season 3 To Launch July 30th
Late last week, at a live-streamed fan event, the premiere date for Rick and Morty‘s third season was revealed. The Adult Swim cartoon will premiere on July 30th, according to series creator Dan Harmon. Technically, it would be the rest of season 3. On April 1st, Adult Swim surprised fans by live streaming the season premiere that night. The series “follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe.”
The show is known for the hijinks Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland), both insane and drunk, gets into with his inventions while Morty (also Justin Roiland) tries to clean up his grandpa’s messes. Also along for the ride is Morty’s sister Summer (Spencer Grammar), and their dad Jerry (Chris Parnell). The adventures cross space and time (like a certain other doctor), but Rick tends to cause chaos in his wake.
The critically acclaimed show has become a pop culture phenomenon. The characters are endlessly quotable (though you shouldn’t) and endearing, even Rick. Rick and Morty even guest starred on The Simpsons, literally crashing the title sequence. The tone of the episodes tends to be very dark, but also have very moving moments. The end of Season 2 had Rick triumphing over his enemies in such a way that fans wonder how the writers will be able to challenge the psychotic scientist.
Along with the announcement of the release date, Adult Swim released the following trailer:
