Two New Harry Potter Books to Be Released by British Museum

According to Nerdist, there will be two new Harry Potter books released this fall. These books will tie into an exhibit at the British Library, and are not directly written by the original series author J.K. Rowling.

More about the New Harry Potter Books:

The new books in the Harry Potter universe will be titled Harry Potter – A History of Magic and Harry Potter – A Journey Through the History of Magic. Although they have similar titles, these two books seem very different.  According to the British Library’s preorder page for Harry Potter – A History of Magic, the book’s description is “Each chapter showcases a treasure trove of artifacts from the British Library and other collections around the world, besides exclusive manuscripts, sketches, and illustrations from the Harry Potter archive.” In addition, this book will contain essays written by British Museum scholars. Based on the book’s description and price point, it seems like Harry Potter – A History of Magic is a coffee table style book meant for people who are enamored with both the Wizarding World and the artifacts found in the British Museum.

The other book seems somewhat different. According to the British Library’s preorder page for Harry Potter – A Journey Through the History of Magic, the book’s description is “This spellbinding book takes readers on a journey through the Hogwarts curriculum, including Herbology, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Astronomy, Divination and more. Discover the truth behind making the Philosopher’s Stone, create your very own potion and uncover the secret of invisible ink. Learn all about the history of mandrake roots and dragons, discover what witches really used their brooms for, pore over incredible images of actual mermaids and read about real-life potions and astronomers, alchemists and more.” This book seems more like Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a book that seems to be from the Harry Potter universe, but does not include any of the characters. On the other hand, it may be a history of magic/belief in magic in our world, which would also be interesting for Harry Potter fans. This book is written by the British Museum curatorial team.

Both Harry Potter – A History of Magic and Harry Potter – A Journey Through the History of Magic will be released in the United Kingdom on 20 October 2017. No announcement has yet been made regarding whether the publication date will be the same in other parts of the world, though the popularity of the franchise seems to indicate that they will be.
