With Sci-fi powerhouse X-Files returning to television, the team has gained two female directors with stellar directing background. There has been some uproar towards the crew roster because of their lack of female directors coming in to season 11. In response to the criticism, Fox TV CEO Dana Walden announced that they did in fact hire two directors, Carol Banker, and Holly Dale, to join the team. They also have three female writers.
Walden defended showrunner Chris Carter’s choice of directing and writing crew, stating that he selected directors from the the previous ten seasons, having worked with them for all those years and their prior knowledge of the show lore. Female lead Gillian Anderson also showed support for the crew additions, tweeting “the future is female.” Also returning to the show is Annabeth Gish, who will reprise her season 10 role as Monica Reyes. Gish has been enthusiastically posting pictures on her social media, from tweets to a group photo with David Duchovny on Instagram.
Introducing Carol And Holly
Carol Banks and Holly Dale are definitely not slouches in the field. Both ladies have stellar directing and crew resumes, going back at least a decade. Holly Dale has been one of the principal directors on the Reign team since the series premiere. She has also directed episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Law and Order SVU, Castle, and Grimm. For Carol Banker, this is a promotion from within. She was a script supervisor with the X-Files team since the beginning. She has also worked with crews for Dogma, Californication, and Glee. Given their experience, we can expect that they will put on a great show for us, alongside the veteran directors and the cast.
X-files is scheduled for release late 2017/early 2018. Are you excited for the revival? What are you expecting to see? Tell us in the comments!
