Daisy Cosplay

How did you first get into cosplay?

I’ve always been a geek but never heard about cosplay before 2012 (I know it’s crazy), when I discovered this world I searched for events/cons near my city and once I tried I fell in love.

Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?

I don’t think cosplay can be an actual career, except for very few people. I think it can be useful for similar jobs, like, you can become a model, a seamstress, a make-up artist and stuff. Thanks to cosplay I was able to attend an important tailoring course and internship, and I’ve been the Italian representative for the WCS (the world cup) in Japan in 2016. I think you can live great experiences and learn a lot of things thanks to cosplay, but I have other plans for my life 🙂

Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?

I make all my costumes from scratch, sometimes even my fabrics haha! It’s my favorite part of the thing!

How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?

Well, it depends xD. There are very simple costumes I make in just a few days, and there are projects for which I worked an entire year!

What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?

That’s a very mean question xD I really don’t know! I love every character I do, but I think my fav is Babydoll!

What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?

As I said before, World Cosplay Summit is the best experience you can live as a cosplayer. It’s not just a world cup, it’s 10 intense days of events that you share with passionate cosplayers from all around the world. I have a lot of new great friends thanks to that, so yeah, WCS is the most memorable experience I lived <3

How do you feel about group cosplays?

Kind of love and hate them XD I love to group up, but It’s always so difficult, especially when it’s a very big group!

What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?

I’m working on Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, last ps4 game I played and one of my favs!!! I really love her!

What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?

Whoa, deep question. I think the biggest issue is the “sexy cosplays” one, along with all the Patreon stuff. I’m actually very disappointed about it.. I think everyone should be able to live this hobby in their way as long as there’s respect, so, basically, I think it’s a very stupid issue.

What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?

I’m more into movies and video games, also comic books!

What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?

Definitively the crafting part! And the evenings after cons <3

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

Local markets! Local markets save your ass!! xD

What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?

Actually I had none. I’ve always been supported by my parents, I have a boyfriend that is cosplayer, and a lot of friends in the community.. maybe, yeah, sometimes the lack of money doesn’t help at all!

Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?

I learned I need to be stronger than the haters!

What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?

HAVE FUN, FFS!! XD

How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?

I think cosplay is becoming more and more popular, so there are plenty of new people and it’s normal that the community is changing… I think there’s just too much prospective of becoming famous, I receive messages like “I want to become a famous cosplayer, what should I do?” very often. Like, chill. It’s just a hobby, you can be less popular than others but this doesn’t mean you will have less fun. Just try to enjoy the small things.

If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over ambitious cosplay you want to do?

A real D.Va Mech with me inside xD

Do you set a budget for each cosplay?

No way, I couldn’t do anything XD

What does cosplay mean to you?

Friends, drinks, derpness.

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

A real life..? Like, If I find the job of my life and stuff.. probably I will not have time… and, surely, if I see that the community become VERY annoying :/
