About Maze Cosplay

My name is Amber. I go by Maze Cosplay. By day I am a laboratory nerd working with blood most the day. By night a am a super ninja that has multiple talents. I do heavy weight lifting and competitive bikini shows. I do aerial lyra hoop, yoga, and pole dancing. I don’t dance much but do more the acrobatic tricks on the pole. I love being active. When am home I am working on projects for cosplay or fun decor for my home. Do a lot of modeling on the side for fun as well.

How did you first get into cosplay?

My friend got me into it 2 years ago.

Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?

It is a hobby. I will always be a kid at heart. So much fun playing dress up! Never gets old!

Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?

I have done both. I’m not the greatest at sewing lol. But I am making my first armour costume soon. It’s such an amazing feeling when you complete something and can say I made that!

How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?

Depends really. My armour costume will take a couple months to complete.

What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?

I know she is so overdone but I absolutely loved my Harley Quinn costume also my Quicksilver costume is one of my favorites!

What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?

The fans are absolutely amazing and so sweet. The love and support throughout the cosplay community that everyone gives each other. I love that they are not afraid to have fun be a nerd and not care what others think!

How do you feel about group cosplays?

It’s a great way to meet new people and make new lifelong friends that have the same interests as you do! Gives you the chance to be free silly goofy and just have fun!

What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?

I am working on a version of wonder women armour now. I have been wanting to do some anime. Also, I love vampires and been wanting to do Akasha from Queen of the Damned. I have a huge list but one thing at a time lol!

What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?

I see a lot more sexual versions and not true character costumes. Seems to be more people seeking attention that are not true cosplayers. Not everyone is an attention seeker but you all know what I am talking about and probably know who attention seekers are v true cosplayers.

What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?

Strong inspirational unique in powering figures that in some shape or form I can relate with or a fantasy I have always wanted to be.

What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?

Making the costumes and having a badass photoshoot with some of my fanominal photographers.

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

Goodwill, eBay, Amazon, craft stores etc… I find unique items and make them my own masterpiece 😉😊

What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?

Some people not understanding why I do it. Why do you have to have a reason? Cant, you just do it just because you can!

Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?

Not to give a fuck what people say or think!

What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?

Just be yourself and have fun. That’s why you’re doing this in the first place right!?

How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?

It definitely has become more popular and it makes me happy more people are coming out of their shells!

If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?

Gantz, I’m obsessed! I would totally go all out. I loved it so much!

Do you set a budget for each cosplay?

Try to make it affordable. All depends on how much I can spend at that time.

What does cosplay mean to you?

Being true to your inner nerd and being real to those around you in the cosplay world.

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

No not really lol. I guess money would be only issue.
