With the revival of the Star Wars universe, more filmmakers have the chance to make their mark in the film industry. Rian Johnson is one such rising star. According to the Star Wars website, the writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi is slated to create a new trilogy within the Star Wars lore, in order to give other characters outside of the Skywalker family an opportunity to tell their story. He is slated to work with producer and longtime colleague Ram Bergman.
The team at Lucasfilm and Disney sing Johnson’s praises for his exceptional work on The Last Jedi, stating that his creativity brought the story to life and that they look forward to what he intends to bring with the side trilogy. Johnson and Bergman also enjoyed being a part of the team, and definitely cannot wait to continue their work. Johnson even made a witty tweet after the announcement
Obviously I hope you like The Last Jedi. But man now I REALLY hope you like The Last Jedi.

Rising Star Track: Johnson and Bergman
Aside from their expected success with The Last Jedi and their previous work on Looper and The Brothers Bloom, Johnson and Bergman have very stable standing in the industry. Rian Johnson is a rising star in the industry while having only a few directing roles, his success with Breaking Bad and Looper propelled him to the spot at Lucasfilms. Bergman as a producer has a host of productions behind him, such as Don Jon. These two are a potential dream team in the industry, and it would be amazing to see what they bring forth from Star Wars lore in the *hopefully* near future. The fans are watching, from a galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi hits theatres December 15th.
