About Dark Inquisitor
Polina, Dark Inquisitor, Russia, Moscow/ Austria, Vienna, 20 y.o.
How did you first get into cosplay?
I was preparing my costume for a year and then asked my parents to buy me a wig, because of my good grades 😀 This is how I got my first cosplay altogether.
Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?
Mostly for fun, but if I get an opportunity of making my career out of it – I am totally in ^^
Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?
How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?
Minimum 2 weeks, maximum 2 years
What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?
Paige from DHMIS, Willow from Don’t starve and Genocider Jack from Danganronpa
What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?
Helping my friend finish her costume one night before the con. It was bad and good (fun) at the same time.
How do you feel about group cosplays?
What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?
Female Rick Sanchez
What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?
Well, I am out of the community conflicts, but as far as I know, a lot of people are arguing about nudity in cosplay, who are making/not making cosplay themselves and who dates who.
What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?
Horror genre and mentally unstable characters 😀 My aesthetic is very dark, like my humor.
What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
Penoplex, tubes and a lot of body paint ^^
What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?
I think it was how my family disliked cosplay as a hobby itself, cause they thought that this is kinda… childish and not serious at all (and my parents are very serious people), plus bullying in school, but I finished school and started making money on my cosplays myself, so this problem went away ^^
Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?
I understood, who I can trust, how the community is working and not everyone is so nice, as they are appearing to be. And I also can use a hammer :3
What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?
Be nice, be creative and don’t spend your time on having fights.
How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?
It stayed quite the same. Fights and gossips were always a part of the community, now it is just more people here. I would say, that only one thing that changes, it’s that people are more talented and hard-working on increasing their cosplay level now.
If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?
GLaDOS with a latex suit.
Do you set a budget for each cosplay?
Maximum amount of money that I can spend is 800 Euros
What does cosplay mean to you?
This is a very important part of my life, where I can bring all my creativity and aesthetics and be the person I want to be. This is like a theatre for me.
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
