About Liorra

My name is Valeria Afanasieva. I’m 20 years ago. I live in Kiev (Ukraine). I graduated from medical college and now I’m a cosplayer. I often go to exhibitions and make new costumes

Templar Assassin from Dota 2

How did you first get into cosplay?

I dreamed of cosplay in my childhood, but I did not know where to start. First Comic-Con in Ukraine inspired me to made my first cosplay.

Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?

I started and continue to make cosplay for myself, but last time it started to make a profit.

Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?

I do all the costumes myself, but sometimes my friends help me.

How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?

Each costume requires a different amount of time. One costume I can make in three days, other costumes I can do a few months.

What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?

My favorite cosplay is Alexstrasza from World of Warcraft, but I love every one of my costumes.

What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?

I still remember how I was invited to the first exhibition as a model. It was for beckoning something incredible. And I’m always pleased every time when they recognize me not only as a hero of the game but also as a cosplayer.

How do you feel about group cosplays?

I’m good at group cosplay, but I do not have that experience. I always do cosplay alone, but I would like to perform in a group

What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?

I plan to make a photoshoot of Bastila Shan from Star Wars and make new cosplay from Star Wars.

What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?

I never had any problems in cosplay, but I think I just do not notice them because of my enthusiasm for making costumes.

What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?

I’m a fan of Blizzard games and Star Wars and they inspire me.

What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?

I love making costumes, but my favorite part is crafting and painting.

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

Almost all of my costumes are related to crafting and I used PVC plastic for my craft.

What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?

The biggest obstacle in the development of my cosplay is the lack of money. Also, I had to overcome my unfaithfulness in myself.

Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?

Thanks to cosplay, I learned to do different things, stopped being afraid of the scene and people.

What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?

The most important thing in cosplay is the quality. It is better to spend more time and money, but to make a costume better.

How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?

I was not so long ago in the cosplay community. I have little contact with other people because I am constantly busy with my cosplay. So, I don’t know.

If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?

I have long dreamed of making Sarah Kerrigan of Starcraft 2. I hope that this dream will come true.

Do you set a budget for each cosplay?

What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay is a visual resemblance to a character. Also, cosplay is the wooing of the character.

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

I do not know. Is that the meteorite fall me.
