Kickstarter Hot Picks – January 1-15, 2018
Kickstarter is the world’s largest crowdfunding platform for creative projects. For the first half of 2017, 24% of the money raised by successful projects on Kickstarter were from the Tabletop Games category. No doubt that Kickstarter has been a serious driving force in the content being supplied in the board gaming industry.
In the latest roundup of Kickstarter Hot Picks, we help fund New Hampshire’s first board game cafe, do science with cats, play a drinking game and post on social media with dogs, and play Backgammon with a fantasy twist.
Let’s take a look at these hot Kickstarter campaigns…
Boards & Brews – New Hampshire’s First Board Game Cafe
Kickstarter is becoming the go-to for crowdfunding for all of our gaming needs. It’s not just about the games and components anymore. There are now Kickstarter campaigns for gaming conventions, for gaming tables and storage, and now for a board game cafe in New Hampshire. This sounds like a great place to play games and enjoy great coffee, food, beer, and cocktails. And the pledges offer lucrative rewards to those who will frequent the cafe on a regular basis.
Boards & Brews, New Hampshire’s first board game cafe, is coming to downtown Manchester. Its goal is to provide a friendly place for casual and experienced gamers to gather, eat, drink, and (of course) play games! The cafe will host a massive, ever-growing library of 600+ games, friendly staff to recommend and teach games, and delicious food, coffee, beer, and cocktails to enjoy while you play.
Pledges offer a variety of benefits for backers that are regular customers to the cafe. A pledge of $15 offers sincere thanks, plus a free coffee, tea, or soft drink on your first visit to the cafe. A pledge of $35 is for a Board Game Dedication, where Boards & Brews will inscribe the board game box of your choice with your name to show guests your support. A pledge of $50 gets a Family Game Day at the cafe, receiving 5 free day passes and a free coffee or soft drink for you and each member of your family. A pledge of $75 gets a 1 Month Boards & Brews Membership, waiving all board game library fees for the duration of the month, plus one guest pass. This reward also comes with a Boards & Brews t-shirt, and a dedication inscription on the game of your choice. There are several additional pledges offered in this campaign.

Cats Are Scientists
Cats Are Scientists is a unique and ridiculous game where players conduct experiments and collect science points to be deemed “The Greatest Science Cat of All Time!”
All throughout history, cats have theorized the idea of gravity. Now, cats from all over the world are testing the principles of gravity by knocking objects off of tables and recording the outcome. It is up to you to successfully conduct enough experiments to formulate enough evidence to prove the Law of Gravity. The cat who can successfully complete this task first will forever go down in history as the cat who discovered gravity!
First, cards are distributed by tossing them on the table, some face-up and others face down. Players take turns conducting an experiment, which, in a very cat-like way, is knocking a card off of the table using your Scientific Method (i.e. using your nose, elbow, etc.) and collecting it. Read the card aloud, and immediately apply the rule or effect on the card to the game. Players MUST follow it to the best of their ability. If you fail to follow a rule in play and another player calls you out on it, you must return a card back into the pile. Continue gathering laws of science cards while doing ridiculous things. Be the first cat to collect 6 or more science points to be deemed “The Greatest Science Cat of All Time!”
All or nothing. This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Saturday, January 6, 2018. The project has reached its goal and is currently 143% funded.
Tipsy Pups is a drinking game for puppy lovers. Players take turns drawing cards and playing the various rules on them, which range from “Icebreaker” cards to “Physical Challenges” to “Classic Games” like Beer Pong, Flip Cup, Truth or Dare, and more. The game ends when all 96 cards have been played. There are no winners or losers, only progressively tipsy(er) friends.
Gameplay is simple. Put all of the cards on the table, either in a draw pile, or scattered around. Players take turns drawing cards and playing the rules on them. Cards are either Icebreakers (“Have you ever?/Would you rather…?” type questions), Physical Challenges (balancing contest, don’t blink), or Classic Games (beer pong, flip cup). The game ends when there are no cards left on the table. There are no winners or losers, just progressively tipsier players!
A pledge of $15 gets you 1 deck of Tipsy Pups. A pledge of $30 gets you 2 decks of Tipsy Pups.
All or nothing. This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Saturday, January 6, 2018. The project has reached its goal and is currently 250% funded.
Elinor. The Deserted Valley
Welcome to the world of Elinor, a thrilling strategy board game for two to six adventurous warlords, with a big playing field and lots of surprises! Dive into a large-scale fabulous world of adventures, fights, and magic. Elinor is a huge continent, situated in the middle of a boundless ocean. The nature of this world is rich and diverse – high mountains, deep forests, endless prairies, severe snows of the North and arid deserts of the South. Eight nations originated from the Valley of the Ancestors, created their own governments in different parts of the continent: wise Djunits, reckless Guawars, fearless Itoshins, enlightened Ulutau, discreet Vedichs, mighty Taurs, inventive Tausmatus, careless Chekatta.
There are two possible variations of the game, and the playing field can be used for both of them. The first one is simplified and will be appreciated by the chess admirers and by people with developed tactical thinking. Every player picks 6 units from the eight peoples of Elinor at random. The main aim of every player is to beat all the opponents’ tokens and to lead his warriors to victory. The second variant of the game is a board turn-based strategy in the best spirit of Civilization and Heroes of Might and Magic. You can control one of 8 unique peoples, each of which has its peculiar abilities, skills, and buildings. Develop the economics, build forts, hire new warriors for your army, become the mightiest master of the Valley of Ancestors.
Before pledging, you can get acquainted with the electronic demo-version at www.elinor.games.
A pledge of $20 receives the board game, Elinor. Add an additional $5 to also receive the book “Elinor. The Deserted Valley” or The Book “Elinor. The Ghosts of the North”. A pledge of $30 receives the board game, and the comic book “Jumanna Amatt and Lion Constellation”.

Lycans vs Vampires – The Full Fantasy Backgammon Collection
Lycans vs Vampires is a Full Fantasy Backgammon Collection for all fantasy enthusiasts, collectors, and gamers.
Lycans vs Vampires is created by Brain Conceptual Entertainment out of love of the “old time classic” game of skill and strategy mixed in with a little bit of luck, a backgammon game, dating back to the earliest civilization – Mesopotamia. The design was combined with their other love: Battles, blood fights, legendary stories, beyond good and bad men. These two great loves lead to a unique result: A Fantasy Backgammon Collection.
Play the traditional game of Backgammon with this fantasy Backgammon set, which includes a wooden backgammon board covered with printed artwork & varnished by hand, a marbleized plastic checkers set -OR- metal checkers set, 2 dice, 1 doubling cube, 1 pouch (for storing dice and cube), 2 pouches (for storing marbleized plastic checkers) -OR- 2 wooden boxes (for storing metal checkers), and 1 box (to carry the backgammon board set).

Players use cards to “post” pictures and comments in the right combinations to achieve status as the hottest dog in the game. The first person – or dog – to complete 3 achievements wins. But be careful, action cards such as Share, Flag!, Steal, and Trending may block you from your achievements and let other players reach their own ahead of you to win.
A pledge of $20 receives one Dogtag Deck, meant to be enjoyed by up to 5 players. Add $20 for each extra deck you’d like. A pledge of $45 receives the Dogtag Deluxe Bundle, which includes the original deck, the Kickstarter exclusive deck, a weatherproof sticker pack, and a button pack.
