According to a recent article by the Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox is working on a Silver Surfer movie. 20th Century Fox has hired comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan to write the film. Vaughan wrote Y: The Last Man, Saga, and Runaways, which was adapted into a tv show on Hulu. He was also a writer and producer for three seasons of ABC’s Lost and showrunner for  CBS’s Under The Dome

Although the merger of Disney and Fox is almost complete, Fox is still working on several Marvel projects. These projects include a Doctor Doom movie from Noah Hawley, creator of Legion and Fargo. Fox is also working on solo movies for Gambit and Kitty Pryde as well as an X-Force movie.

Who is the Silver Surfer?

Silver Surfer

Although this will not be the Silver Surfer’s first movie appearance, there may be fans unaware of who the Silver Surfer is. Silver Surfer was once known as Norrin Radd. Norrin Radd was from the planet Zenn-La, a peaceful planet. One day, Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, came to feed on their planet. In order to save the planet and everyone he cares about, Norrin Radd made a deal with Galactus. He would serve as Galactus’s herald and find uninhabited planets for Galactus to feed on. Galactus agreed and gave him a fraction of the Power Cosmic. That is when Norrin Radd became the Silver Surfer. Soon enough Norrin Radd broke free from Galactus and began to explore the Marvel Universe on his own.

What to Expect

There is no word on which storyline the movie may take inspiration from. Though an origin story is the most unlikely, since it wouldn’t make for a good movie. His origin would only take up maybe 30 minutes of screen time. The only interesting parts of his origin are after Galactus comes to Zenn-La. It is also highly doubtful that any version of the Fantastic Four will show up, seeing as Fox has trouble with that franchise. The movie will probably take place after Norrin Radd separated himself from Galactus, with Galactus only showing up briefly in flashbacks. Norrin Radd will probably travel to at least one alien planet to observe and help the different alien races. If this movie is written well, it should be a fun cosmic adventure.
