Walking Dead Season 8B: The Last Stand

Season 8 of The Walking Dead continues, as the second half is due to return on February 26th. If the midseason trailer is anything to go by, fans can expect the battle to end all battles. According to Comicbook.com, there is more Rick vs Negan action as The Saviors move in on the Alexandrians,  beginning what is being called The Last Stand. In the trailer, also seen is Carl Grimes incapacitated and possibly being dead after being bitten by a walker. Several events have occurred in real life that indicate the departure of Carl Grimes from the show. Chandler Riggs cut his hair and his father, William, went on a social media rant of how unfair it was for his son to be removed from the series.

Also, according to US Magazine, a dying Carl says the following lines to Rick: “You put away your gun. Hell, you stopped fighting. It was right. It still is. You can still be like that again.” Despite these events, Executive Producer Robert Kirkman stated that Carl may or may not die. It will be revealed in the upcoming episodes, but Carl’s impending death may be the catalyst that drives Rick to the point of escalating the turf war.

Carl’s Possible Fate

While all signs are pointing to farewell, there are several directions that the show could go with Carl being bitten. First, he could survive somehow despite being bitten. It has happened in zombie, vampire, and werewolf literature. Secondly, he could turn but be kept as a “pet”, as Michonne kept her walkers on chains. That would be an interesting relationship with Rick! However, he could simply just die, and as Kirkman stated, Carl’s death frees Rick to be and ruthless which may be needed to protect the coalition from the Saviors. Considering he was supposed to be contracted for another 3 years, there are so many questions. They will only be answered when the show returns on February 26th. What are your thoughts? Do you think we will see more Carl? Let us know in the comments!
