More Star Wars is On the Way
According to starwars.com, Disney/Lucasfilm has put Jon Favreau in charge of a live-action Star Wars series. This series is set to be released on Disney’s upcoming streaming service (currently described as Disney’s direct-to-consumer service). This upcoming series does not have an estimated release date yet. However, we do know that it will not be coming to screens this year. Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer service will not begin before early next year, in 2019.
On the subject, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said “I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.“ At this juncture, it should be said that all of the upcoming Star Wars movies are going to be executively produced by white men. Perhaps Kennedy should work on hiring more women in charge behind the scenes?
A Dream Come True for Favreau?
Jon Favreau, unsurprisingly, is thrilled to be working on a Star Wars tv series. He said “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.” Favreau previously directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2 for Disney. He will also direct the remake of The Lion King.
You can see Jon Favreau in the upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story. This film will arrive at a theater near you on 25 May 2018.
