Smash Bros Players, Get Your Sticks!
Most Nintendo fans have been waiting in agony for the next installment of the Smash Bros series since their newest console the Switch was announced. New hardware means new Smash; that’s just the way of Nintendo life. With its release slotted for some time in 2018, Nintendo plans on getting our feet wet with a tournament! The place? E3, of course! June 11-12, players can compete on the newest version of the beloved title.
But is it New Smash? Or Just Improved?
However, many are still wondering what exactly will be different in the newest Smash. It could be an entirely new game, could be a port. Or many a combination of the two perhaps? What we do know is that new characters will be added to the roster as usual. Right now we know from a recent teaser trailer that the Inklings from Splatoon 2 will be up for the challenge. Who else? Who knows! Could be ANYONE. I mean, they added Villager, so legit, could be anyone.
The tournament for Smash Bros on Switch will be invitational similar to how Nintendo worked the Smash Bros 4 tourney on Wii U a few years ago. Nintendo of America rep Doug Bowser (best name ever if you’re working for Nintendo) had this to say on the event:
“We’re looking forward to watching some of the best players in the world test their skills against each other in these two uniquely competitive games.”
Now as exciting as this is, there’s a big question on everyone’s minds: exactly what peripherals will the Switch use for Smash? Just Joy-Cons, or will there be a port for the Gamecube controller similar to the Wii and Wii U? I know everyone I’ve ever played with in my Smash life is all SCREAMING for the chance to dust off the old sticks. Plus, you know, arguably the best (and to some only) way to play. But nothing has been confirmed so everyone hold your breath!
Mark it on your calendars, people! June 11-12, E3, Smash—when you never know just how many new challengers may appear.
