Transformers Music Heads to Vinyl for the First Time

Whatever happened to predictability? The milkman, the paperboy, the themes on TV? The theme song is a lost art on television. Sure, there’s the wonderful Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt theme. And most kid’s shows feature theme songs. But, for the most part, theme songs have gone the way of the dodo. For those of us who grew up devouring TGIF and Saturday morning cartoons, the theme song holds a special place in our hearts. Of those themes, there is a handful that cut right to the core of a ’90s kid. Of course, the first is The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. But the immediate runner-up is the theme to Transformers.

more than meets the eye!

The very mention of Transformers and its iconic theme song conjures memories of mornings spent with sugary cereal and blanket superhero capes. Despite its recent mucking-up by Michael Bay, the property still has legs. Yes, it is essentially a toy commercial with a plot. But it’s a novel idea, and one that should be easy to execute. Obviously, the best iteration of Transformers is the 1980s series. Now, for the first time, the music from the series is coming to vinyl (officially).

Audiophiles, Roll Out!

On March 9th, Hasbro and Legacy Records will drop Hasbro Studios Presents ’80s TV Classics: Music from The Transformers. The title is a mouthful, but is music to the ears of diehard Transformers fans and vinyl collectors. The single disc LP features 40 tracks on a limited edition colored vinyl for $18.99. If you haven’t checked the price of a new vinyl record lately, that’s a steal. The total collection runs over 45 minutes and comes in Optimus Prime and Megatron coloring. However, ThinkGeek has a limited number of black and yellow Bumblebee discs. The entire run is limited to only 2,000 copies and goes on sale Friday at noon, so act fast!

So, will you be perusing your local record store for a copy? Or are you going to try your luck with the ThinkGeek exclusive? Let us know in the comments!
