Review – The Walking Dead S08E15: Worth

The Walking Dead - AMC

The Walking Dead S08E15: Worth

This week on The Walking Dead, Negan returns to the Sanctuary and regains control of the Saviors. Dwight secretly prepares notes to Rick about Negan’s plans and sends Gregory to deliver the notes. Daryl and Rosita capture Eugene from his outpost, but Eugene manages to escape and continues pushing his workers to craft bullets.

Dwight lures Simon into a meeting where Negan accosts him for going against his orders with the Scavengers. He challenges him to a fist fight and kills him. Negan then reveals that Laura informed him of Dwight’s siding with Rick, and that his planning was a ruse upon knowing of Dwight’s disloyalty. Later on, Negan is contacted by Michonne. She reads Carl’s letter to him at the request of stopping the war to make peace. Negan, however, declares that there is no going back now. He intends to kill Rick and his allies to settle things once and for all.

Things escalated a bit as Simon stepped into the leadership role when Negan was presumably missing. It was a surprise to everyone when he reappeared, and he had several meetings and discussions with the top lieutenants where the tension could be cut with a knife. Does he know? Did he figure everyone out? Simon was called out for killing the Scavengers. It almost felt like we were going to see Simon get his Lucille moment, but Negan forgives him.

Despite the forgiveness, Simon still wants to eliminate Negan. He recruits a handful of the other lieutenants, but he gets ratted out. Instead of executing him, Negan challenges Simon to a bare-knuckle brawl to the death. This culminates with Simon getting beaten down and choked to death, and his reanimated walker corpse later hung on the fence as an example of betrayal. (Side note – Steven Ogg made the most incredible character-turned-walker transformation in The Walking Dead series thus far.)

During the fight, Dwight instructs Gregory to take a set of plans to Rick at the Hilltop, informing him of Negan’s plan of attack. But since Laura (who was picked up by Negan in the car in the last episode) returned and informed Negan of Dwight’s duplicity, that plan was actually a faux one, and Rick will be lead into a trap instead.

In the previews for the finale, we see Dwight dressed in Daryl’s prison uniform. We will have to wait and see if he will also be fed dog food sandwiches and tortured with the “Easy Street” song.

Eugene Takes Control

Daryl and Rosita take action and capture Eugene from his outpost. He attempts to explain his reasoning to his once-ally, Rosita, but she is not having any of it. He realizes that he is being lead to an undesirable situation and uses his unconventional methods to escape by vomiting sardine mac and cheese all over Rosita.

Eugene manages to return to his outpost, and continue pushing his workers to craft bullets. Whether it’s the high of a successful escape or the desire of vengeance upon his former group, he is highly motivated to finish the bullet order for Negan.

Final Thoughts

This week’s episode seemed quite predictable at times. But the action started at the beginning and continued all the way to the end. It seems hard to imagine that they can wrap up All Out War in the final episode of season 8.  We will see if they can do it, especially considering the Rick/Negan conflict has been ongoing since the end of season 6.

The Walking Dead‘s Season 8 finale airs Sunday, April 15 at 9/8c on AMC.
