Funko Pop! – Solo Products Hit Shelves

Solo Cups Not Included

Funko officially released their Pop, Mystery Mini and Dorbz figures promoting Solo: A Star Wars Story. As usual, the sets include basic figures, chase figures, and store-exclusive figures. The figures officially went live April 13th at Midnight.

Solo Begins its Marketing

If there’s one thing Star Wars fans can expect out of the Disney era of films, it’s a full-on marketing blitz. However, Solo: A Star Wars Story is the exception. While the numbered Episodes receive product tie-ins featuring everything from cars to oranges, the marketing for this movie has been unusually quiet. Heck, even the teaser trailer didn’t debut until four months before the film’s release. Furthermore, the product tie-ins are few and far between.

Much has been made about the behind the scenes drama surrounding the film. Late into production, original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller left the film. They were replaced by veteran filmmaker Ron Howard. Adding fuel to the fire, rumors circulated that Disney was unhappy with Alden Ehrenreich’s portrayal of Han Solo. While rumors mounted, Howard shared tons of behind the scenes pictures on social media. Many saw the quiet marketing as an attempt to cover-up a messy film. But, Disney and Lucasfilm are ramping up the movie’s marketing, and new products are hitting the shelves rapidly.

Funko’s Expanded Galaxy

Heading up the movie’s licensed products are Funko’s line of figures. The inexpensive vinyl dolls come in several varieties, and each set offers many collectible options. In short, Funko scratches all of the collector’s itches at once, and it all makes for a satisfying collectible experience.

The sets boast a smuggler’s bounty of new figures. Chief among them are BoxLunch’s flocked Chewbacca figure, and GameStop’s fighting droid 2-pack.

Although we still don’t know much about Solo: A Star Wars Story, Funko fans know the irresistible urge to collect all the figures! So, will you be picking up any of the new Solo Funko figures? Let us know in the comments!
