Andrew Lincoln Set to Depart AMC Hit The Walking Dead
Star of AMC’s The Walking Dead, Andrew Lincoln is leaving the show next season, the ninth of the show. Lincoln has played the main character, Rick Grimes, since season one. The show is no stranger to main cast members leaving, but Lincoln’s departure may be the biggest setback yet. It is also a big transition because other series originals Lauren Cohan and Chandler Riggs are also parting ways. Like fellow TV hit, Game of Thrones, this is a show where fans understand that no one is really safe.
Lincoln himself seems excited at what the show has in store, even without him. He told EW that the new season will be reminiscent of the pilot and the first season, more so than past seasons. “It’s a really exciting time for it,” Lincoln told EW. “I feel like season 1. It’s a big year, and I’m excited for it.” However, he seems eager to take on more versatile roles and move on for his career. He is a skilled actor, after all, and fans should look forward to seeing what other projects he will be a part of.
What’s in Store for the Show
Reports say that Lincoln will appear in about six episodes in the ninth season before making his exit. This is another deviation in the show from its source material, Robert Kirkman’s comics.
Longtime star of the show, Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon, is set to stay on board and take over as the leading role and main character. The Walking Dead is returning to AMC this fall for the ninth season.
AMC has made no official comment yet on Lincoln’s decision.
