About D Fallen Star Cosplay

I’m Nika, a 21 year old art student from Croatia. I’ve always been the creative one in the family and fell in love with the idea of cosplaying a long time ago. The idea of starting to cosplay was in my head for quite a while and just recently (end of 2016) I decided to start doing it all by myself! Love playing video games and cosplay some of my favorite characters.

How did you first get into cosplay?

I started doing cosplay with my mom since I was little, but at the end of 2016, I started working alone on some bigger stuff.

Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?

Cosplay for me is mainly fun and a way to step outside the box and be creative but would love to one day make more of it. What’s better than doing something you love?

Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?

I love making cosplays myself. But I do sometimes mix and get something if I need it.

How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?

Depending on how complicated the cosplay is, from 2 weeks to a few months.

What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?

Right now my Deathwing from World of Warcraft is my pride and joy.

What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?

Most memorable? I would say, going on stage for the first time in cosplay.

How do you feel about group cosplays?

I think that’s an awesome thing.

What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?

Right now I’m finishing Katarina from League of Legends and will be starting my bigger build in a month which is Dragon Sorceress Zyra also from League.

What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?

The biggest one for me is hate and internet bullying. It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white, short or tall, etc. you can cosplay whatever you want! The cosplay community is a big family, there is no room for such things.

What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?

I adore when a character has loads of details and armor. Those things inspire me the most.

What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?

Every part is always so exciting. Love building things, even more, I love painting. Can’t answer this one, everything is my ”fave”. Except sewing, I hate sewing haha,.

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

Don’t really have a specific one. Depends I guess.

What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?

Showing myself and my work to people. It still sometimes scares me to open myself fully because I’m afraid of rejections.

Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?

The cosplay community shows so much love to other people/cosplayers. I think that’s a lesson everyone should learn. Thanks to those people, I opened up.

What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?

I would just say believe in yourself and don’t think there are obstacles in your way because your mind is the one making them. Get crafty and make something that you really love.

How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?

It’s getting bigger for sure! <3

If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?

I wish that’s how everything works! I wouldn’t leave my room. Really don’t know, I would start working and wouldn’t stop! ^_^

Do you set a budget for each cosplay?

Not really, no.

What does cosplay mean to you?

I constantly strive to get better at crafting and I love learning new things along the way!

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

Pretty sure there is nothing of that sort.
