Another Contender for the Batgirl Cowl
Katelyn Nacon has thrown her metaphorical bat-ears in the ring for Batgirl. The actress, who is best known for playing Enid on The Walking Dead, answered a fan’s question on Twitter. The fan asked, “what kinda superhero would you wanna play?” Nacon responded:

There have been a couple of other volunteers for this famous cowl. When Joss Whedon was preparing to direct, Lindsay Lohan expressed interest. Additionally, Hailee Steinfeld expressed interest in the role last year. However, there are a couple things that need to be settled before we know who will take the role.
The Problem with Fan-casting Batgirl
Joss Whedon made headlines last year when he signed on to write and direct Batgirl. However, Whedon dropped the project earlier this year, revealing that he didn’t have a story for her. DC has hired Christina Hodson to write the screenplay, but they don’t have a director yet. The field is very uncertain.
This uncertainty means that it’s not clear which iteration of Batgirl the DCEU wants to bring out. Will it be redhead Barbara Gordon? This is the most likely option, considering that they can bring back JK Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. It is the rumored option. However, the uncertainty behind the scenes opens up other options. What about the great Cassandra Cain? Stephanie Brown? Is it reasonable to start fan-casting before we know for sure what sandbox we’re playing in?
The DCTV universe may also become a factor here. Next season, Batwoman will be part of the Arrowverse (Batwoman is always Katherine Kane). It’s possible that the reaction to Batwoman may affect the likelihood of the Batgirl movie. If the DCTV fans really don’t like the idea of a female Batman counterpart, Batgirl may get shelved.
Is there such a thing as too soon for fan-casting? Who do you think should play Batgirl? Who do you think should direct the movie? Chat about it in the comments!
