DC Extended Universe List of Directors May be Growing
According to TheOneRing.net, Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson is thinking about the DC Extended Universe. A tweet released on May 9th said that Jackson was deciding between a Middle-Earth tv series for Amazon or something in the DCEU.
While there is no confirmation to this news, other rumors indicate that two other directors may join the DCEU. One of the directors rumored is Stephen Spielberg. The other director still remains unknown at this time.
Peter Jackson’s Decision
At this moment, it is unclear which direction Jackson will take. While he is known for his Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, that does not mean he won’t take a risk. The DCEU does not have a lot of accomplishments and could use big directors to help build their universe.
The problem is, the DCEU could be too much of a risk for Jackson to take. The DCEU has only had one big hit so far, and that was Wonder Woman. Perhaps directors like Jackson and Spielberg may consider joining the DCEU as an unnecessary risk and decide not to join at all.
The DCEU’s Future
The DCEU is still going despite the negative reviews and attention it has been receiving. With Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman 2 confirmed, it is clear that the DCEU still has a few tricks up its sleeve. If the DCEU can get directors like Spielberg and Jackson, then they can enhance their universe even further than most cinematic universes.
Though the DCEU shouldn’t focus on just getting big names attached to each project. They should worry more about how they can tell the best story with their characters. If Peter Jackson has an interesting idea for a DC movie, that’s great. However, the DCEU needs to find the right director for the right project.
