SyFy Gives Glimpses of Deadly Class and Nightflyers

SyFy Offers First Look at New Series

SyFy is gearing up for next season, giving fans a peek at two new series. The television network released a teaser trailer for Nightflyers, based on a 1980 novella by George R.R. Martin (of Game of Thrones fame). Fans also have a chance to watch a first look video for Deadly Class, based on Rick Remender and Lee Loughridge’s comic book series of the same name.

Nightflyers Teases Mysterious Horrors in Deep Space

True to “teaser” categorization, the trailer for Nightflyers doesn’t give the viewer much to go on. However, according to Martin, “My novella Nightflyers tells the story of a group of scientists who charter a tramp starship to take them into deep interstellar space in search of the volcryn, an alien species thought by some to be mythic.” It looks like something for science fiction and horror fans to sink their teeth into.

Additionally, the series stars Gretchen Mol, Eoin Macken, David Ajala, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet, Angus Sampson, Bryan O’Bryne, and Jodie Turner-Smith. Martin praised the casting of Turner-Smith as Melantha Jhirl on his blog, noting that her character had been whitewashed before in book art and a film adaptation before. He wrote, “Maybe it took thirty years, but at long last I can say: now, that’s Melantha Jhirl.”

Nightflyers is produced by Daniel Cerone. The series will premiere later this year.

Deadly Class Promises Lethal Conspiracies and Coming-of-Age Drama

Deadly Class features a secret school called King’s Dominion Atelier of the Deadly Arts. The students there train to become elite assassins for crime operations across the world, but the creators also tease teenage drama that’s easy to relate to. The series stars Benedict Wong, Benjamin Wadsworth, Lana Condor, Michel Duval and María Gabriela de Faría. The Russo brothers (Captain America: The Winter SoldierAvengers: Infinity War) are producing.

Deadly Class will debut on SyFy sometime next year.
