About Mewbiscuit

My name is Sarah, mostly known as Mew. I am 23 years old, living in Switzerland. I started cosplaying four years ago but I still consider myself as a beginner. 🙂

Vaporeon from Pokemon

How did you first get into cosplay?

A group of friends asked me to join their cosplay group!

Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?

I do it just for fun 🙂

Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?

I try to make them by myself but I am not really good at crafting. that’s why I buy most things.

How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?

My Vaporeon Gijinka armor took me about 4 months. I made it all by myself!

What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?

I think it’s Super Sonico because I feel like she suits me and we have similar personalities

What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?

When I was at Gamescom in Köln I cosplayed Lamb from Kindred from the game League Of Legends. My friend cosplayed Wolf and so many people took photos of us so we couldn’t even visit the con! we had so much fun with posing for photos and answering questions about our cosplays. we just walked up and down the hallway so people could see us and take photos with us. We even appeared in a famous German news show on TV!

How do you feel about group cosplays?

It’s the best! I always have so much fun with other people and a cosplay group gets so much attention! it’s fun and motivating to work on cosplays together!

What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?

I have a lot of plans! some of them are secret but I can tell you that I am planning to cosplay Mei from Overwatch in her default skin and Sailor Neptun from Sailor moon for a Sailor Senshi cosplay group!

What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?

Toxicity. So many people are jealous or just bored, I don’t know to be honest, that they spread hate over the cosplay community which is really sad.

What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?

I love to cosplay characters I can identify with. Like body type or their personality.

What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?

Definitely attending cons!

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

I mostly use Worbla or EVA foam. The rest is either from the internet (Amazon, Aliexpress etc) or from local stores

What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?

Believing in myself and being positive. I struggle with depression and anxiety a lot and sometimes it takes much power to overcome these things.

Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?

Be positive! No body shaming! Everyone can cosplay! No matter age, race, gender, size or whatever. Just do what makes you happy!

What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?

Don’t give up!

How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?

Like I said before, I think there is much more hate in the cosplay community. Also, there are a lot of “fake” cosplayers who only cosplay characters almost naked (even if it doesn’t fit the character’s personality at all) and I think that these people get a bit too much attention.

If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?

I always wanted to do Eir Stegalkin from Guild Wars 2!

Do you set a budget for each cosplay?

Yes! It depends on the cosplay though.

What does cosplay mean to you?

It means being somebody else. it means being creative and forgetting about all the struggles of real life.

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

I don’t think so.
