Michael Meyers is Back in New Halloween Trailer

Michael Meyers Returns to Haddonfield, IL

Universal Pictures released the trailer for the upcoming Halloween reboot/sequel. The film takes place forty years after the original and finds Jamie Lee Curtis’s Laurie Stroud seeking revenge on Michael Meyers.

Halloween Returns to its Roots

What a long, strange trip Halloween has had. In 1978, John Carpenter introduced Michael Meyers. The masked serial killer ushered in a new era of “slasher” movies and paved the way for the likes of Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger. However, Carpenter never envisioned Halloween as a franchise driven by Meyers. Instead, he pictured something akin to the Cloverfield universe. Fans didn’t take kindly to Halloween III: Season of the Witch. So, Halloween and Michael Meyers were forever entwined. Many sequels followed, and Rob Zombie rebooted the series in 2007. The reboot garnered a sequel, but the sequel didn’t connect.

Now, Danny McBride and David Gordon Green bring Meyers back to terrifying life. Their new film, also titled Halloween, ignores everything except the first two films. The result is an angry Laurie Stroud vowing her revenge against the masked killer, and a long-imprisoned Meyers hellbent on wreaking havoc. Check out the first trailer below!

Folks, this trailer is an absolute banger. From the beginning, Halloween proves that it needs to exist in a land of sequel exhaustion. McBride and Gordon Green have a take on the franchise that feels familiar but re-adjusts the main players in new, interesting ways. Yes, Michael is essentially the same. But Laurie is 40 years older, and 40 years angrier, and she will destroy the masked madman at any cost. Basically, she is the new Dr. Loomis, but the personal ties she has to Meyers make the dynamic much more harrowing.  Furthermore, it looks like an absolute riot full of the thrills (and kills) that made the franchise a force to be reckoned with at the box office. Halloween is going to be a fantastic time in a packed theater this October.
