A Song of Ice and Fire: The Winds of Winter Delayed

Season 6 of HBO’s Game of Thrones is fast approaching, and we are steadily moving past what’s been covered in the books,  Many fans of both the show and the novels are having a dilemma: do they watch now, or do they wait for the books? Fans may have to rethink waiting until the next book is released to keep up with the series.

Book 6 (Winds of Winter) has been once again been delayed.

Martin’s publishers had hoped to released the next installment of the best selling series before the show resumed in April, but it doesn’t seem that’s going to happen. Martin  announced via his blog that the book would not be released as expected and he sound sincerely sorry for the delay: Unfortunately, fans of the books will have to wait a bit longer to receive the next installment. Martin has a lot to say about why it’s not completed, weddings he attended and other obligations, but mostly he says its because, for him, writing just doesn’t always go well. He makes a statement toward the end of then entry (which you can read here), that the book will be done when it is done, and it will be as good as he can make it.

For some, the show will hold them over until the release of the next book. For the rest, hopefully the time between now and the book release goes quickly.

“THE WINDS OF WINTER is not finished.

Believe me, it gave me no pleasure to type those words. You’re disappointed, and you’re not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed… but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me. For months now I have wanted nothing so much as to be able to say, “I have completed and delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER” on or before the last day of 2015.But the book’s not done. (…)

Yes, there’s a lot written. Hundreds of pages. Dozens of chapters. (Those ‘no pages done’ reports were insane, the usual garbage internet journalism that I have learned to despise). But there’s also a lot still left to write. I am months away still… and that’s if the writing goes well.”
