Arnold Schwarzenegger Will Be Back in New Terminator Film
According to ComingSoon.net, Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed on an as-yet-untitled film in which he will reprise his most famous role. That’s right: the Terminator will be back on movie screens in 2019.
More About Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator Reprise:
When James Cameron initially came up for the idea for the Terminator films, he sold the idea for them to a producer named Gale Ann Herd. The rights then changed hands several times, most recently belonging to Paramount Pictures. Due to how American copyright laws work, the rights to the Terminator franchise are going to revert back to Cameron in a couple of years. A creator can only give their rights to their project away for 35 years, since The Terminator was released in 1984, James Cameron will own his franchise again in 2019.
When Cameron gets those rights back, he plans to push through a new Terminator film, which we now know will star Arnold Schwarzenegger as his most iconic character. Since James Cameron is already planning to direct four sequels to his 2012 blockbuster Avatar, he’s passed the Terminator director’s torch to Tim Miller (who is primarily known for directing Deadpool). Miller is writing the script with David Ellison, who directed Terminator: Genisys.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has thus far appeared in all of the films in the Terminator franchise: the only franchise property he did not appear in thus far was the television show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. His absence in the television show is probably because the television show may not have wanted his famous face to interfere with the titular Terminator (played by Summer Glau), or because Arnold Schwarzenegger was rather busy being the Governator of California.
