More about Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
The trailer depicts four teenagers (played by Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain, Morgan Turner) that get sucked into a video game they find while serving detention. Inside the video game, our heroes now appear as the characters in game (played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan respectively). This leads to a lot of humor, since the teenage main characters are nothing like the characters in the video game. The teenage girls arguably have the worst of it, since the stereotypical “pretty girl” is stuck in Jack Black’s (who has never been a pretty girl, no offense) skin and the stereotypical misfit girl is stuck in Karen Gillan’s, who is wearing “half a shirt and short shorts in the jungle.” The guys are stuck in Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s character and Kevin Hart’s character, and their problems are that they’re too muscle-y and too short, respectively.
This film seems rather different than the original Jumanji concept. For people who don’t recall that film, Jumanji followed four entirely different characters as they tried to survive a board game that was messing with their reality. In Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the opposite seems to be true. Instead of a board game messing with the reality of the players, the problem in this film seems to be a video game bringing the players into its reality (which was a plot point in Jumanji, but a brief one). This difference will likely divide the fanbase.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will be in theaters on Christmas Day 2017.
