Star Wars fans the world over have another film to celebrate. Solo: A Star Wars Story has revealed their movie posters. As seen on Superherohype, the stylized international posters give us an official view of the main cast, including individual character posters. There is a great deal of anticipation for Solo as well as controversy over the source of the artwork.
French artist Hachim Bahous called out Disney and Lucasfilm for designing their posters to resemble work he did in 2015. Disney and Lucasfilm have not directly addressed the claims. However, to avoid any additional controversy, they opted to pull those posters. New ones have since been released. So far, they have released a teaser trailer along with these posters, and we can expect more over the next couple of months.
Solo Controversy and Box Office Expectations
Production for this film has been rife with trouble for a while. In June 2017, The original directors, Chris Lord and Phil Miller were fired by Lucasfilm due to creative differences. Ron Howard was brought in soon after as the new director. Towards the end of 2017, the rumors began that the studio wanted Solo to fail at the box office. Now, in March, the poster releases bring accusations of theft. Considering this is a movie about the space bandit and pilot known across a galaxy far far away, it is poetic.
At least one person praises the film. Rian Johnson, director for The Last Jedi, praises the work on the film. His work faced a lot of criticism but managed to do well. Our own James Goodson said the film “pushes new boundaries for the universe and is nothing like any Star Wars we’ve ever seen before, and there’s good and bad in that.” Ron Howard is a seasoned and talent director, so we can expect success. Until May, the anticipation is all we have to work with. What do you think, readers? Are you excited? Are you apprehensive? Tell us in the comments!
Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25th.
