Game of Thrones Producers Announce Filming is Complete

The HBO hit series Game of Thrones is complete. The cast celebrated with a wrap party last Sunday, but production did not officially end until July 6, when they shot the final scenes. It took place at the huge and familiar King’s Landing set, where actual final scenes of the show will also take place.

The Final Week

The final week of filming leads fans to plenty of questions. There was a surprise scene at the Magheramorne green screen set, which they used to shoot scenes with armies and riding parties. There is no public reason for the return there, and it had been three months between using it.

Appropriately, King’s Landing was the center of all the action for the final week. Pictures reveal that a tower will be destroyed, some action is taking place near the city gates, at least one King’s Landing neighborhood will be burned down, and much more as green screens were placed outside the city and smoke was used to cover the set. It looks like the capital is in for some serious trouble–or perhaps dragon fire.

And this was only what they have done with physical sets and props. I can only imagine what will come into play post-production with visual effects. (Seriously. Dragons.) But fans will just have to wait and see when the new season premieres next year.

A Strange Hint

Maisie Williams, a fan favorite who played Arya Stark throughout the show, posted a heartfelt and slightly disturbing image on Instagram today. The picture was her blood-stained sneakers with a caption which read: “Goodbye Belfast. Goodbye Game of Thrones. What a joy I’ve had. Here’s to the adventures to come #lastwomanstanding #barely #immasleepforthenextfouryears #justkiddingidontsleep”

Actress Lena Heady, who plays Cersei Lannister on the show, commented “QUEEN.” This also follows rumors of Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, getting a tattoo with the Stark sigil and the words “The Pack Survives.” So, who’s to say how this turns out?

HBO has released no official date for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.
