3 Reasons to Check Out Dreamer Comics Podcast
For an industry that is almost a century old, not much is really known about the creator side of comics. How does an author break a story, either for one 26-page issue, or an arc across multiple issues? How much collaboration happens between writer and artist and what is considered an over-step in that relationship? What does it take to get started—keeping in mind DC won’t give you the reins to pen your Batman epic? With Dreamer Comics Podcast host Omar Spahi helping to break it down for us, here are 3 reasons why you should check it out.
1 – A Host Who Cares
Often media outlets will hand coverage of comics to those who are not the most knowledgeable about the subject. When interviewing creators they ask pretty basic, dry questions: “Who are the characters in the book?” “When does it come out?” etc. Luckily, this is not what you will hear with Omar Spahi. An industry veteran with his own book, Xenoglyphs, he comes with the questions that we want answers to. Questions that get Kyle Higgins to talk about his writing process. When asked the reason for this endeavor Spahi stated:
“I wanted to demystify how to break into comics. I want to help others reach their goals of making amazing comics. I love helping others discover their passion and explain the formula for breaking into comics.”
2 – Exploring the Craft
Writing has rules. Or guidelines, depending on the person you ask. But general rules apply when following a three-act structure or formatting a script properly. However, there are not any available courses for how these rules apply to comics. You can’t sign up for advanced scripting with paneling instructions at your local college. Most creators, when asked for advice, generally reply with, “Find what works for you.” This is not bad advice, but it is hard to do with no examples. So it’s conversations with creators about their own original works that give more of an insight into the craft.
3 – The Guest List
You know the names. They are our rock stars. And though we probably won’t see them lip-sync-battling with Jimmy Fallon, it is cool to see them whenever they get a spotlight. Dreamer Comics Podcast has an amazing guest list from Kyle Higgins (Power Rangers, Nightwing) to Sina Grace (Iceman, Power Rangers). Dreamer Comics Podcast is giving you a chance to experience conversations with these industry professionals. And with 40+ interviews done, the content coming our way is exciting. So subscribe where you can to the podcast and be sure to check out their new up and running YouTube channel.
